During wars, a lot of tactics are employed to squash the onslaught of the enemy. But most times, there emerges a hero from the most unbelievable of situation. Somewhat like the proverbial white pap from the blackest of the pot. This hero in the fight against some many diseases including epilepsy is CBD oil. A compound found in one of the most illegal plants in the world: cannabis also called marijuana. It has proven itself useful against cases like epilepsy, insomnia, and unbelievably, cigarette addiction. In the beginning CBD oil was originally found in cannabis and had been the only source for a while. Dating as far back as the 19th century when Queen Victoria used it to treat menstrual cramps. In fact, it is recorded King Henry VIII fined farmers who refused to raise cannabis plants for industrial use. But as it always turns out, when the real purpose of a thing is not well known, abuse is inevitable. Even though cannabis had been used for so many things like textile in China, pharmaceutical drugs in American and so on, it soon became a source of inspiration for the uninspired and addiction level rose. Hemp vs Marijuana: the stalemate Hemp, as it is known is a species of the cannabis sativa plant. It is grown industrial for specific uses like CBD oil, textile, clothing, paints etc. marijuana, on the other hand, is a combination of the flowers and the dried, shredded leaves of the cannabis sativa plant (the hemp plant). It is greenish-grey in color and its highest chemical composition is the delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It is a psychoactive compound which is similar to CBD that is also found in the same plant. Meaning that hemp and CBD come from the source and are needed for the same problems. What a stalemate. Hemp vs Marijuana: The unreconcilable differences When you have offspring of the same parentage, putting a difference between them might somewhat become tactical especially when the case is that of twins. Same thing applies to hemp and marijuana. They are so closely knighted that a DNA test might just be the way to go. Even the governments of the world especially America has been once confused with the two when in 1970 they banned both and classified them as a Schedule Drug I. What actually differentiate this two can be summarized in their purpose (legal difference) and their content (scientific difference). Marijuana, (or weed, pot, Mary Jane etc.) has been applied to majorly medicinal and recreational purposes while hemp, being a jack of all trade, has been known to a massive over 25,000 possible applications that marijuana couldn’t possibly be used in. this in itself puts a big gap between the two. One is of utmost industrial application and value, while the other is simply limited to medicinal uses. Why is this so? (The scientific differences) The answer to understanding the reason for the behavior of an entity lies in examining its makeup. Hemp has a very low composition of THC (< 0.3%) while marijuana has a THC chemical makeup of about 5%-35%. This makes marijuana psychoactive and hemp non-psychoactive. Another notable difference is how these two plants are cultivated. While hemp does not require a baby sitter and can grow in most climates, marijuana needs care controlled environment to survive. Hemp-Derived CBD vs Marijuana-Derived CBD Moving on from what has been discovered so far, it is clearly obvious that whatever will separate and give a clear boundary to these two entities will come from their application and makeup. If marijuana contains high THC and hemp does not, the difference between their CBD will definitely the additional contribution that THC provides. Did she just say ‘some ailments need higher levels of THC’? Yes of course she did. That shows that marijuana-Derived CBD has THC compounds within it. That’s the difference. The claims and the rumors There have been claims and rumors regarding the differences between Hemp-Derived CBD and Marijuana-Derived CBD. Some claim that hemp oil is cleaner than marijuana oil. This in itself is faulty in that calling an extract clean is based on the process of extraction used and not the components of its original source. Both hemp-Derived CBD and Marijuana-Derived CBD are from the same cannabis plant which means they are extracts. They definitely were not the only extracts from cannabis but were specifically selected from a host of other compounds. The main difference between Hemp-Derived CBD and Marijuana-Derived CBD remains the amount of THC compound present in both.
